Types of Oral CancerOral cancer develops in various tissues of your throat or mouth. Cancer will most likely develop on your squamous cells in the lips, mouth, and tongue. Different types of oral cancers can grow in your oral cavity. We have classified oral cancer in terms of the parts affected, and they include the below.

Lip Cancer

Lip cancer affects the skin of your lips. It can either affect the lower or upper lip. In most cases, the tumor affects the squamous cells. There are many risk factors predisposing you to lip cancer such as smoking and exposure to harmful ultraviolet rays. If the tumor Is detected early, surgery is enough to manage it. In later stages, your doctor may recommend chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Tongue Cancer

Tongue cancer affects the cells of the tongue and will tend to cause ulcers or lesions on your tongue. It can either occur on the front part or at the base of your tongue. Squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue is the most prevalent. Tongue cancer is quite prevalent for spreading to other areas, such as the lymph nodes. Some symptoms of this type of cancer include the numb mouth, persistent ulcers, white patches on the tongue, or persistent lumps.

Jaw and Gum Cancer

Gum and jaw cancer is a rare type of cancer. It can either affect the upper or lower jaw. However, in most cases, the lower jaw is most commonly affected. Some of the symptoms of this type of cancer are pain when chewing or swallowing food, ear pain, loose teeth, and difficulty when speaking. Some risk factors for cancer include poor dental and oral care, heavy alcohol consumption, tobacco smoking, or poor nutrition. If you note any swelling, lumps, or ulcers on your jaw, it is essential to seek medical care as soon as possible.
