Common Dental Implant Myths

Posted on 9/5/2022 by Pacific Maxillofacial Center
Common Dental Implant MythsMany individuals have established numerous myths about dental implants as popular beliefs without a scientific basis to support them. They include:

Dental Implants are Stronger than Natural Teeth

The base material used produces the idea that implants have more excellent resistance than the teeth themselves. Advances in this field have led many people to believe that, for this reason, an implant has more excellent resistance than the tooth itself.

However, no matter how resistant the material with which the manufacturer makes the Implant, it is still an artificially external element.

If there is not Enough Bone, it's impossible to place Implants

Many people believe that sufficient bone is required to perform an implant. However, dentistry has found a way to solve this problem, and even in patients with a reduced bone surface, it is now possible to fix implants. Using unique grafting and regeneration techniques allows oral surgeons to place dental implants in patients who initially did not have enough bone for consistent attachment.

They are for Life

Although dental implants have a very long life, they do not necessarily last forever. Generally, a dental implant lasts between 15 and 25 years, and those ten years of difference are primarily determined by the patient's dental hygiene and lifestyle.

When an implant fails, it is due to rejection

Sometimes the Implant fails because of inadequate integration; the piece cannot integrate with the bone. But these cannot be considered rejection since, typically, it is not a problem that the body does not accept the make-up material. Manufacturers make the implants out of titanium, a compatible material that does not cause allergies or other adverse reactions.

In conclusion, dental implants are essential for better tooth care. Individuals should not base their decision on myths stories but consult professional dental care for sound decision-making.
