Wisdom teeth, which are the third molars at the back of your mouth, might need to be removed for various reasons. In many cases, wisdom teeth don't have sufficient room to grow properly, leading to dental problems. When wisdom teeth erupt, they grow at various angles and can cause damage to the jaw. This is why you need them removed. In some cases, not all wisdom teeth have to be extracted. When you come to our offices, we will evaluate them and remove only those that are causing damage. We will also do x-rays and find those that can cause problems in the future.
The Need for Wisdom Teeth Extraction
It is very important to remove wisdom teeth that can cause damage. Failure to remove wisdom teeth on time will cause challenges when you eat or talk. This is because your tongue movement will be interrupted. Therefore, we will remove the wisdom teeth to prevent a problem they might cause in the future or correct one they have already caused.
There are several problems that wisdom teeth can cause if not removed. For instance, your jaw might not be large enough to accommodate wisdom teeth. As a result, they might become impacted and unable to break through the gums. This can result in a very uncomfortable experience. If your wisdom teeth are causing such discomfort, we may recommend their extraction.
Furthermore, wisdom teeth might break through the gums and cause the growth of gum tissue over them. This will create a perfect place for food particles and bacteria to get trapped. Since the normal brushing of your teeth will not clean such areas easily, the bacteria will cause infections that can get severe. This is why it is very important to have the involved wisdom teeth removed. You could also experience severe infections from impacted teeth, such as decay and gum disease. Furthermore, damage to the jaw could result in TMJ. Visit our offices for more information on wisdom teeth.
