You Should Visit Us if Your Ears Ring All the Time

Posted on 9/6/2021 by Pacific Maxillofacial Center
You Should Visit Us if Your Ears Ring All the TimeFrom time to time our ears ring. This is understandable if we are inundated with noise. However, when nothing else seems to be happening around us, and our ears are still ringing, this is called tinnitus. This phantom noise can also be described as a buzz or click. Others report hearing a roaring, hissing, or humming noise in one or both ears. The intensity of these noises can vary. If tinnitus is present in your ears and disrupts your daily life, a visit to our office may help to answer your questions and shine light on why this may be happening.

Tinnitus Causes

A blockage in your ear canal from earwax, fluid, or dirt may be the culprit. If you have experienced head trauma or neck injuries, you may already be familiar with a more chronic case of ringing ears. In addition, if you are a male, have had exposure to loud noises, or have a history of arthritis you are unfortunately more likely to experience this unpleasant sensation.

Did you know another possible cause of tinnitus is temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders? This is a less common cause of tinnitus, yet worth exploring with our dental specialists. The TMJ is the joint on each side of your head in front of your ears. This is the joint where your lower jawbone meets your skull. If this joint is impaired in some way, it can cause tinnitus.
