Most Common Reasons to Get a Custom Mouth Guard

Posted on 12/10/2019 by Pacific Maxillofacial Center
Most Common Reasons to Get a Custom Mouth GuardIt's possible to buy a mouth guard from your local grocery or sporting goods store, and you can even get them for really cheap. They come in two varieties stock and boil-and-bite. You may have even had a stock mouth guard before but thought it was really uncomfortable.

So, you decided to spend a little more money and get a boil-and-bite only to find it wasn't that much more comfortable. It may have even hurt to get it to form to your teeth correctly.

Besides being uncomfortable, the mouth protectors you can buy over-the-counter don't provide the protection you need. This is especially bad if you bought the mouth guard for sports. The reason these mouth guards don't offer the best protection is because of how they fit. The snugger a mouth guard clings to the teeth, the more protection it provides. Unfortunately, even the boil-and-bite variety of mouth guard can't cling to your teeth like a custom made one.

How We Can Help You!

At our office, we provide anyone interested in getting a custom mouth guard the opportunity to do so. A custom mouth guard is superior to the over-the-counter varieties because it is an exact fit to your teeth. It's also a better option because it is less bulky, meaning it doesn't obstruct your airway when breathing through your mouth making it great for athletes.

Custom mouth guards are also great for people who suffer from teeth grinding. They can protect your teeth while you sleep, and because they don't block your airway, you won't have to worry about not being able to breathe while you sleep. If you are an athlete or need a mouth guard for nighttime teeth grinding, please contact us. We can make you a custom-fitted mouth guard that we can ensure will properly protect your teeth and make breathing easier.
