Reason the Jaw May Be Sore Following a FallIf you have recently suffered from a fall and landed on your jaw, your dental health may be at risk. The jaw plays a vital role in supporting your teeth and gums, and when it's damaged, it can possibly affect your oral health.

The teeth need a strong jaw to support them in order to properly function. When the jaw is weak, eating food can be difficult and sometimes impossible.

Having pain after a fall is normal for any person, but the problem comes in when the pain is long lasting and persists an abnormal amount of time. A good way to identify if there is a problem with your jaw after a fall is to be patient. If you received a bruise after your fall and it has healed, but you still feel pain in your jaw, it may be an indication that your jaw is broken.

Effects Of A Broken Jaw

A broken jaw is a serious problem for many reasons. Besides being extremely painful, your oral cavity relies heavily upon your jaw's support. Broken jaws can cause misalignments in your bite and these misalignments can cause unnecessary wear on your teeth and even your gums.

Moreover, a misaligned bite can actually be really difficult to correct. If your jaw is broken and it heals improperly, your jaw may need to be re-broken to make sure it grows back the right way. This process can be extremely painful and may take months for your jaw to heal properly, but it may also be necessary to fix your misaligned bite.

If you've had a fall and hurt your jaw, it's important to come and visit us. We can take x-rays of your jaw and make sure it's not broken. If it is broken, we can help you recover quickly. Give us a call to set up an appointment today so we can try to help.
