How Jaw Surgery Improves Your Looks

Jaw surgery generally improves several aspects of your smile and overall quality of life. The primary goal is to address cosmetic and functional jaw issues. Jaw surgery can move and reshape parts of your face. The surgeon may mold or shift the jawbone position based on your needs. These changes can alter parts of your lower face, potentially giving you a completely different appearance. If you have braces, you will need to keep wearing them for another six to nine months after the surgery. Once your braces are removed, you must wear removable retainers to maintain the new position of your teeth. Your healthcare provider will tell you how often to wear them, but most people need to wear them continually.
