Outer ear reconstruction is a surgical procedure that focuses on fixing irregularities affecting the external part of the ear. Your ears might be deformed or damaged due to congenital anomalies, trauma, or cancer treatment. Some people have overly large or small ears because of genetic or developmental factors. Outer ear reconstruction is a complex procedure that involves a team of otolaryngologists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Your OMS surgeon will review your medical records and conduct several tests, including a physical exam and X-rays, to determine your candidacy for the procedure.

Ear reconstruction might require up to four office visits, based on the recommended procedure. Your OMS surgeon may reconstruct an ear with a medical implant or rib cartilage before positioning the ear framework at the appropriate site. Some patients might require an artificial ear anchored into the ear site bone.
